Let's Make Exercise Fun Again!

Is your exercise program in a rut? Do you find yourself stareing at your stairmaster? Are you starting to dread the thought of another exercise session? Well, I don't know about you, but I'm sure in a rut with my current exercise program.

For about 2 and a half months, I've been doing the 90 day workouts that you see all over the television. I like it . It's a great workout program if you are already in pretty good shape.

The thing is, I have found myself fairly burnt out with this program. I've still got a little over 2 weeks to go to finish the 90 day program.

I figure I can either "gut it out" or try something different. I mean it's that simple. Hmmn, I think it's time to take a break and re-energize my exercise program. Let's take a look at a few of the ways I can get my exercise and at the same time break away from my home gym.

Re-discover the great outdoors. There are several parks, walking trails and a lake nearby. Getting out in the fresh air and filling my lungs with that sweet mountain air will certainly change my frame of mind. It's amazing how much your body relaxes when you get away from the background noises of the city.

Puttering around the yard. There are a lot of aerobic activities available right there in the backyard. Whether it's moving the yard, cleaning out the gutters , or planting some flowers or shrubs, you can get away from the home gym and spruce up the old homeplace at the same time.

Putting for real. Are you a golfer or a sometimes golfer? Why not take in a round at your favorite course. It's great exercise and can take your mind off of your problems. Walk instead of taking a cart if your golf course will let you.

Go for a swim. Is there a pool near you? Perhaps you have one in your backyard. Swimming is a refreshing way to get in you exercise without even noticing you are working out. Also consider water aerobics. I especially like to go swimming at an indoor pool during the winter months.

Is your regular exercise routine becoming a bit of drudgery? Do you find yourself just going through the motions and not giving your best effort? Why not admit to yourself that it's time for a break and take a couple of week away from your regular regimen . With exercise alternatives that you enjoy, you'll still get your exercise. And, when the time is right you will be able to return to your regular exercise program refreshed and ready to give it your best effort.
